What It Means To “Be Present”

Podcast (20).png

Usually each episode is planned out, I know what the topic is going to be, what the general structure of each episode will look like… you get the point. But today, I just felt like hitting record… and out came everything about being present and what I believe being present really means.

Because when we can learn to just be, we can find more fulfillment and connection within ourselves and with those around us.

Sending you all the love this holiday season!!

Navigating Self Care and The Winter Blues

Podcast (18).png

Ahhh I am SO EXCITED to be back at the mic. I wanted to start off season 3 with a few tips on navigating self care and the winter blues (since this is something I have struggled with for a long time!!)

Self care has become a buzzword (buzz phrase..?) and I’m not mad about it because we should be talking about it more…

But I also want to emphasize that if we are not careful, we can completely bypass the entire *purpose* of self care… making this process rushed, confusing, and overly complicated.

Because ultimately the goal is to prioritize yourself. To REFUEL and REFILL your cup, your energy. To be in your body. To be present with yourself AND your emotions. To create intentional time with YOU.

So to help you really feel the benefits of self care, I wanted to share my tips to making sure it is actually working FOR YOU as well as how you can use them to navigate the winter blues. I hope you enjoy this episode!!!

The Expectations We Place On Ourselves

Podcast (42).png

This week on the podcast I am bringing you another solo episode. I wanted to talk about the expectations we place on ourselves, how they are not always ours, and how they can hold us back from truly experiencing life.

So in this episode, I dig into a time in my life when I placed my worthiness in my external world and how the fear of judgement held me back from going after what I wanted. I discuss how our expectations can be adopted from our external world and how we can let go of the ones that do not serve us. I also talk about how we can make this whole journey feel a whole lot better just by deciding to treat ourselves with more compassion.

Let me know if any questions and I hope you enjoy this episode!

Ditching Diet Culture Doesn’t Mean I Don’t Take Care Of My Body

Podcast (41).png

This week on the podcast I am bringing you another solo episode. I get A LOT of comments around, “but if I stop dieting, then I will just stop taking care of my body.”

So in this episode, I discuss how ditching diet culture doesn’t have to mean that we no longer care for our bodies. Rather, we are getting the opportunity to stop fighting ourselves. To create a relationship with our bodies. To learn to listen. Like really, really listen.

Because in the end each get to decide what healthy feels like.

Placing Our Worth In Our End Results

Podcast (28).png

This week on the podcast I am bringing you another solo episode. This weeks topic was inspired by our She Craves Truth Free live call on Tuesday night.. All about the why behind wanting to lose weight.

Understanding the why behind our goals and dreams in this life can give us insight into where we are placing our happiness and what kinds of beliefs we have about ourselves. If we are always saying “I will be happy when…” or “ I will be worthy and enough when…” we are always going to be on the chase.

In this episode, I help you break down the why behind your goals and how to identify if you’re being driven by a negative, non serving belief. But most importantly I explain how to start shifting all of it so that you can feel happy now AND get to where you want to be in life (and that might look like shifting some goals/deep seeded beliefs around).

Let me know if any questions and I hope you enjoy this episode!

An Intro Into Meditation and Getting Clear on What You Want

Podcast (30).png

This week on the podcast I am bringing you another solo episode.. But one that is way different than usual. Because I am giving you one of my free meditations (from my 5 day challenge) right in this episode.

This past weekend I lead an event with two other amazing coaches all about mindfulness and getting present with yourself. I feel meditation and getting present are buzzwords today with so many mixed meanings on what they are and how to utilize them. So in this episode I break down what meditation can actually look like and how to use it to get clear on what it is that you desire out of this life, out of this journey to finding body acceptance. I recommend you don’t listen to the second half driving or working out this week ;)

Let me know if any questions and I hope you enjoy this episode!

Episode on The Steps I Take to Help Me Process Feelings of Anxiety

This week on the podcast I am bringing you a guest episode with Personal Trainer, Jake Gifford (@thephitcoach), to talk about weight stigma and his unique approach to personal training.

In this episode, we dive into why Jake doesn't encourage weight loss and instead calls for a paradigm shift by reframing exercise as an activity that can be beneficial beyond the way we look. We talk about weight stigma and the biases around people in different body types, removing the fear around exercise, finding intuitive movement that brings you joy, and more.

A little about Jake: Jake is an experienced personal trainer who focuses on tearing down the barriers to exercise and emphasizes an inclusive approach to fitness that goes beyond how we look. A Solo Episode on the Steps I Take to Help Me Process Feelings of Anxiety

Copy of Podcast (32).png

This week on the podcast I am bringing you a solo episode all about the steps I take when anxiety or overwhelm or stress shows up.

“Stress is not allowed here. It is bad, wrong, and needs to be fixed” This was the story I had created for myself for as long as I can remember.  And as soon as I felt that uncomfortable sensation, I did everything possible to get rid of it. I didn’t know how to feel it, I didn’t want to feel it so I avoided it all together.

And I am learning I am not alone in this. So many of us have a negative relationship to stress and overwhelm. We either focus too much on the thoughts that created those sensations in the first place or we avoid the anxiety/stress completely… either by numbing out on something or obsessively trying to control our external world. Anything to feel better. Anything to not feel the overwhelm.

But the funny thing is in order to feel better, we need to feel.. Which many of us have stopped doing or don’t know how to do anymore. Which is why I wanted to share the following steps to help you get out of your head, back into your body, and actually allow the emotion to be released.

If you try any of this let me know how it lands for you and I hope you enjoy this episode.

Episode 42: Lara Briden on Hormones, Birth Control, and All Things Periods

This week on the podcast I am bringing you a guest episode with Dr. Lara Briden (author of Period Repair Manual) and I am SO excited to share this interview. Lara answers my 10000 questions on all things periods, hormones, birth control, and more.

In this episode we dig into what a healthy period looks like, symptoms of HA and PCOS (and how sometimes the two can be confused), how low carb diets could lead to a lack of ovulation and why ovulation is SO important for our health as women, an honest conversation about hormonal birth control and how it affects the body, endometriosis, PMS and so much more.

A little about Lara: Lara Briden is a naturopathic doctor and the period revolutionary—leading the change to better periods. Informed by a strong science background and more than twenty years with patients, Lara is a passionate communicator about women's health and alternatives to hormonal birth control.  Her book Period Repair Manual is a manifesto of natural treatment for better hormones and better periods and provides practical solutions using nutrition, supplements, and natural hormones. Now in its second edition, the book has been an underground sensation and has worked to quietly change the lives of tens of thousands of women.

Chris Sandel on Weight Set Point Theory

Copy of Podcast (29).png

This week on the podcast I am bringing you a guest episode with Chris Sandel, host of Real Health Radio. A few months ago, I came across one of Chris’s podcast episodes on Weight Set Point Theory (which is linked up in the show notes, I highly recommend checking it out for more info) and wanted to have a conversation around this topic.

So, in this episode we dig into Weight Set Point Theory, what it is and some of the science behind it, explaining calories in calories out and how it is not as simple as it is made out to be, the MANY different things that factor into a person's health and weight, embracing diversity, understanding what healthy means to you, and more. We go into several studies, science, and research around these topics, so if you like facts this episode is for you ;)

A little about Chris: Chris Sandel is a UK based nutritionist. He studied at the College of Naturopathic Medicine before setting up his own company, Seven Health, in 2009. He now works with clients all over the world.

Chris’ approach to food and health is non-dogmatic, and he helps his clients to find their own personal best health, whatever that means for each individual. He understands that health isn’t just about the food you eat, and so focuses on a wide range of factors. He has a specific interest in the psychology of eating, improving client’s relationships with food and body image issues.

I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did!
